India Vizag Port Makes Solar Switch

Vizag Port in Andhra Pradesh is preparing to run its operations solely on solar power from March, 2016, after already commissioning two megawatts of solar capacity, with the option to add another eight megawatts by March 20, according to NDTV.


Krishna Babu, Chairman of the Port of Visakhapatnam Port, said: "We will be the first major port in the country to run entire port operations on solar energy.”


Devendra K Rai, Director of the Indian Union Ministry of Shipping, said the target is to install 135 megawatts of solar power projects by 2020 at eight of the country’s major ports.
