Vietnam's Da Nang completes second-stage of Tien Sa port expansion

Da Nang officially opened the 2nd stage, which includes 2 piers, of Tien Sa port, bringing annual capacity to 12 million tonnes. Da Nang Port Joint Stock Company general director Nguyen Huu Sia said that would allow access to 70,000-dwt ships and 4,000-TEUers. The port was a key hub in central Vietnam connecting the East-West Economic Corridor that links Laos, Thailand, Myanmar and Vietnam.

Tien Sa port, 10 kms from downtown Da Nang, handled 4 million tonnes of cargo in the 1st 6 months this year, a 6.14%t year-on-year increase. It received on average 23 ships from 15 shipping agencies per week.

The city's port system, including Tien Sa, Lien Chieu and Son Tra, would handle 29 million tonnes of cargo by 2030. The Port of Kawasaki in Japan has been planning to open a shipping route connecting the two ports.
